Postpartum Depression

Childbirth can lead to postpartum depression. It can occur during pregnancy and/or following childbirth and can last up to a year. Some common symptoms are:

  • Feeling an inability to cope and not wanting to be left alone with the baby

  • Repetitive or compulsive tendencies like counting, checking, and excessive hygiene and cleaning

  • Insomnia and appetite loss resulting in rapid weight-loss

  • Fogginess and confusion

  • Extreme panic that can feel like a heart attack

If you are experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression after the birth of your child, please contact your primary care provider.
